Thane: The Thane unit of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested 21-year-old Nameera Tariq Khan, a Mumbra resident, in connection with its probe into passports allegedly obtained by submitting false information, officials said.The probe has also focused on Nameera’s father, Tariq Khan, who has reportedly been absconding for several years. According to investigators, he is allegedly associated with banned organisations, including the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and Indian Mujahideen. Investigators are also probing allegations involving counterfeit currency and other serious offences attributed to him.According to the sources, the ATS suspects that Nameera travelled to Saudi Arabia on two occasions using passports allegedly obtained on the basis of false details. The agency is also probing whether she travelled to Pakistan and is verifying her international travel records.Investigators are examining passports allegedly obtained using Kurla and Lucknow addresses, along with the documents and information submitted during the passport application process. The ATS is also investigating the circumstances under which the passports were issued and allegedly used for overseas travel.The ATS is examining whether Nameera was aware of her father’s alleged activities and whether her overseas travel had any connection with him. Investigators suspect that she travelled to Saudi Arabia and met her father there.Nameera’s mother, Shabnam alias Firdous Tariq Khan, is also reportedly absconding, and investigators are searching for her.
