HC rejects Hemant’s plea to stay PMLA proceedings
Hemant had challenged the special court’s rejection of his discharge plea

Ranchi: Jharkhand high court on Friday dismissed chief minister Hemant Soren’s petition seeking a stay on proceedings against him before a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) special court in Ranchi. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad pronounced the order after reserving his judgment on Sept 16 following arguments in the case. Hemant had challenged the special court’s rejection of his discharge plea in a case concerning the alleged purchase of 8.86 acres of prime land in Bargain. He is accused of acquiring the property by laundering proceeds of crime. The special court had rejected his discharge plea on June 8, prompting Hemant to move the HC.
