Dumka: A 57-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 17-year-old son following a dispute over cooking at Masania village under Kathikund police station, police said on Friday.The accused, Karnelius Murmu, allegedly killed Pradip Murmu after becoming angry that the boy was not cooking properly while Karnelius’s wife was away at her parental home in West Bengal. Kathikund police station officer in charge Balram Kumar Singh said Karnelius’s other sons live separately, leaving Pradip with him.Police received a Dial 112 call on Sept 23 reporting that Pradip had died by suicide after hanging himself. A team led by Singh reached the house and found the body lying on a cot. A preliminary examination revealed a mark around Pradip’s neck, raising suspicion.On a written complaint by Pradip’s mother, Phulmani Besra, police registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified persons. Investigators later questioned Karnelius and said he admitted involvement. Police said they recovered a green patterned gamcha with white and dark-green stripes, allegedly used in the crime, based on his information.Karnelius was produced in court on Friday and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
