Dhanbad: Preparations for the convocation ceremony of Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (BBMKU) on Oct 9 were reviewed at a senate meeting on Tuesday, which also saw legislators sharply criticise the university’s functioning and the slow pace of development work.Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha said teachers, college principals and students were dissatisfied with the administration. He alleged that development projects were progressing slowly and that funds had not been released for several works.Referring to the previous convocation, Sinha alleged that elected representatives attending the event had been ignored and felt insulted. He said the issue was later raised with the university administration, which expressed regret.Sindri MLA Chandradev Mahato, Tundi MLA Mathura Prasad Mahato, Chandankiyari MLA Umakant Rajak and Jamua MLA Manju Kumari also attended the meeting.Senator Ranjeet Rai said the convocation would be held as scheduled and that preparations were progressing smoothly. He added that the next senate meeting had been proposed for Oct 13, when several academic matters would be considered. Development works at the university and its affiliated colleges would also be reviewed.The meeting discussed the arrangements and requirements for the convocation. University officials said necessary steps were being taken to ensure the ceremony was conducted smoothly.Vice-chancellor Ram Kumar Singh, registrar Radhanath Tripathi and other senior officials were present.
