GAIL told to restore roads after pipeline work

Ranchi: The district administration has directed GAIL and its contractors to restore roads damaged during the ongoing gas pipeline works and ensure adequate safety measures at construction sites to prevent inconvenience to commuters.Sadar sub-divisional officer Kumar Rajat, in a meeting with GAIL officials and contractors on Thursday, reviewed the progress of pipeline and road works, restoration of damaged stretches, safety arrangements and adherence to project timelines and issued the directions.Taking cognisance of road damage at several locations due to ongoing pipeline work, DC Manjunath Bhajantri directed GAIL and its contractors to take corrective measures on priority and restore affected roads to their original condition after completion of the work.During the review meeting, Rajat directed contractors to immediately fill pits dug during construction or pipeline laying and ensure that the roads are levelled and made fit for traffic once the work is completed. He stressed that commuters should not be forced to face prolonged inconvenience because of unfinished restoration work.The SDO also instructed contractors to put in place proper barricading and other safety arrangements throughout the duration of the work. Work sites must have measures to facilitate the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians and prevent accidents, officials said.“Construction and pipeline work should not leave roads in a condition that causes prolonged inconvenience to the public,” Rajat said.He added that contractors would be responsible for the quality of restoration and ensuring that affected roads are traffic-worthy after completion.GAIL officials were also asked to coordinate with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Road Construction Department (RCD) to ensure timely execution of projects and better coordination among agencies.Rajat directed officials and contractors to complete the projects within the stipulated timeframe and regularly monitor the progress of work. He also stressed compliance with prescribed safety standards and administrative directions.
