Patna: A 15-year-old girl drowned and another remained missing after three teenage girls were swept into deep water while bathing in Parman River at Hariyali Market Chhath Ghat in Araria district on Thursday afternoon.According to police, the deceased was identified as Parveen (15), daughter of Mohd Islam of Ward 23 in Araria town. Another girl, Buchiya (12), daughter of Mohd Jalal of the same locality, was untraceable. An SDRF team was carrying out a search operation till late evening.According to family members, the three girls had gone to bathe in the river around noon when they accidentally ventured into a deeper stretch and began struggling in the strong current. One of them managed to swim back to safety and raise an alarm.Locals and divers rushed to the spot and pulled Parveen out of the water. She was taken to Sadar Hospital, Araria, where doctors declared her dead.Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Family members said the girls were bathing in the nearby river when the mishap occurred.Town SHO Sanjeev Kumar said the SDRF team carried out the search operation till late evening, but the missing girl could not be found.
