Buxar: Distribution of seeds for the ‘garma’ (summer) crop season has started in block agriculture offices across the district.District agriculture officer (DAO) Dharmendra Kumar said on Tuesday that seeds are being provided at subsidised rates to farmers who had submitted online applications. The district has been given a target to distribute 140 quintals of moong (green gram), 60 quintals of hybrid maize, and 50 quintals of urad (black gram) seeds for the season.A total of 6,894 farmers from 11 blocks have applied online for summer crop seeds. The DAO advised all applicants to contact their respective block agriculture offices to collect the seeds. He also encouraged farmers to make effective use of crop residues after harvesting. He said once the crops mature and pods are harvested, the remaining plant material should be ploughed back into the fields as green manure. This practice improves soil fertility, increases organic carbon, and boosts beneficial microorganisms, while also enhancing nitrogen levels, he added.
