Ranchi: Police late on Saturday busted an alleged sex racket at a hotel barely 100 metres from the district collectorate, raising fresh concerns over illegal activities being run from hotels, lodges and guesthouses in the city. The collectorate houses the offices of Ranchi deputy commissioner and SSP. During the raid, police arrested 12 people, including nine men and three women. Two minor girls were rescued.Kotwali ASP Nikhil Rai said two of the arrested men were employees of the hotel. “Three women have also been arrested for their involvement in illegal activity. Two minor girls have been rescued and will be sent to correctional homes,” he said.Rai said the arrested women named a man allegedly linked to similar activities in the past. “We are investigating the matter based on their statements,” he added. The raid has again put the spotlight on the alleged misuse of hotels, lodges, guesthouses and rented accommodations for prostitution and trafficking networks. In June, police had busted a sex racket in a posh locality in Harmu and arrested six people, including two women from West Bengal.Residents said the latest case was alarming because of its proximity to key administrative and police offices. They demanded stricter guest verification, regular inspections and closer monitoring of accommodation facilities across Ranchi.
