Dumka: Police arrested a 44-year-old man within 24 hours for allegedly murdering his cousin, a private surveyor, over an old dispute at Mohanpur village in Sahibganj district.Sahibganj SDPO Vimlesh Tripathi said on Monday that the accused, Bahadur Bagti, was arrested on the basis of human intelligence and technical evidence. A knife allegedly used in the murder was recovered, while a pair of slippers was seized from the crime scene.Police said the victim, Gaur Chandra Bagti, 55, had left home around 4:45 am on Sunday for his morning walk. He was waiting for his friend Shripad Mandal near Mohanpur Chowk when Bahadur allegedly approached him from behind, attacked him with a knife and slit his throat.“During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime and said he committed the murder because of an old dispute with the deceased,” Tripathi said.Gaur Chandra raised an alarm and tried to save himself, but the accused fled before locals could reach the spot, the SDPO added.After visiting the scene, Radhanagar police informed senior officers. A special raiding team was formed under Tripathi’s leadership on the direction of the SP. Police are now probing the dispute between the cousins.Gaur Chandra was the sole breadwinner of his family. He worked as a private surveyor, while his wife runs a small grocery shop from home. He is survived by his mother, wife and son.
