CHENNAI: A youth from Bihar was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Tiruvottiyur.The child, who lived with her parents in the area, fell ill a few days ago. Her parents took her to a private hospital, where medical examinations indicated that she had been sexually assaulted. They subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.During the investigation, police identified Rahul, 26, a Bihar native who lived in the neighbourhood, as the suspect. Police subsequently arrested him and registered a case under the POCSO Act.Police said the incident was not a gang sexual assault and that the case currently involved Rahul as the accused.During the investigation, some migrant workers attempted to leave the area when police arrived. Members of the public caught and assaulted them, following which police intervened.
