Jamshedpur: The 21st birthday of elephant Rajni and the first birthday of calf Badal were celebrated at Makulakocha in Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday as part of Wildlife Week.Rajni was given a 20-pound cake, while Badal received an 11-pound cake. Forest department officials, staff and schoolchildren joined the celebrations, singing birthday songs and interacting with the elephants.Rajni was rescued in 2010 after she was found injured and trapped in a pit near Pilid village in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. After receiving treatment at Tata Steel Zoological Park, she was shifted to Dalma, where she has since become a major attraction for tourists. This year’s celebrations were especially significant as they marked Badal’s first birthday. The calf was rescued from the Porahat forests near Chaibasa in Dec 2025 and brought to Dalma for care and rehabilitation.Dalma DFO Saba Alam said the birthdays of Rajni and Badal had become a special feature of the sanctuary’s Wildlife Week celebrations, helping raise awareness about wildlife conservation among visitors and schoolchildren.
