With the transition, the institution—earlier known as women’s college, Sarath—has been officially renamed degree college, Sarath. The online admission process for undergraduate courses across all constituent and affiliated colleges of SKMU began on June 25 and will continue till July 8, officials said.Established with the aim of promoting higher education among women, the college had so far admitted only female students. However, the state govt approved its conversion into a co-educational institution to meet growing demand and improve access to higher education, particularly for students from rural areas.“The introduction of co-education at degree college, Sarath marks an important step towards expanding access to quality higher education in the region. This decision will benefit students from rural areas, increase enrolment, and contribute to improving the gross enrolment ratio,” VC Prof Kunul Kandir said in a statement issued by SKMU.
