Ranchi: Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Thursday called for ensuring that artificial intelligence (AI) remains rooted in human values and social responsibility, even as he hailed the growing success of women in higher education at the third convocation of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU).In his address, Gangwar said, “A serious debate is underway on the opportunities and risks posed by AI. The society must play an active role in shaping its development. Technological advancements should be linked to human sensitivity, morality and social responsibility to ensure their constructive use.”Governor also highlighted the strong performance of female students, noting that girls accounted for 93 of the 143 toppers honoured at the convocation. Describing it as an inspiring picture of a changing India, he said, “Daughters are proving their mettle in education, science, administration, medicine, technology and sports.”A total of 6,415 students of the 2025 and 2026 batches received degrees, gold medals and certificates during the university’s third convocation. The awardees included 20 PhD scholars, 2,982 postgraduate students and 3,334 undergraduate students.Prime Minister’s advisory council member Dr Rakesh Mohan, who was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Letters (D Litt) degree, said schools and colleges teach students the art of learning, but the pursuit of knowledge continues throughout life.DSPMU vice-chancellor Prof Rajiv Manohar highlighted the university’s academic progress, saying around 40 projects funded by various govt institutions are currently operational on the campus.Toppers, on the other hand, attributed their achievements to discipline and perseverance. Political science topper and son of a farmer in Madar area of Ranchi, Pirtam Oroan, said, “I focused on self-discipline and remained away from social media distraction.” Kharia language topper Kanchan Dungdung said she is aiming to take the state’s competitive examinations in future.
