Ranchi: To curb road accidents and streamline vehicular movement, Ranchi traffic police have identified 89 hazardous divider cuts across 12 major city routes that need to be sealed immediately.Officers from five traffic police stations, including Khelgaon, Lalpur, Gonda, Jagannathpur and Pandra, conducted surveys in their jurisdictions to pinpoint these chaotic spots.A six-member committee has been constituted at the direction of Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri to oversee the inspection and closure of these openings. The panel comprises representatives of Traffic SP and Municipal Commissioner, two Circle Officers, an Executive Engineer from the Road Construction Department, and the officer-in-charge of the concerned police station.Traffic SP Rakesh Singh said, “Officials surveyed their respective areas and drafted the list of cuts requiring closure. Now the committee is working in a phased manner to inspect these spots and seal them accordingly.”Key stretches identified include Khelgaon Chowk to Kantatoli via Kokar, Khelgaon Chowk to Jumar Bridge via Booty More, Karamtoli Chowk to Booty More, Kantatoli to Durga Soren Chowk, Dangratoli to Kantatoli, Kanke Road, Sahjanand Chowk to HEC, Old Vidhan Sabha to Dhurwa Roundabout, Chandni Chowk to Tupudana and Hawai Nagar, Shalimar Bazaar to Prabhat Tara Ground, and Itki Road.Sealing operations have already commenced on the Khelgaon–Kokar stretch. “These cuts trigger severe traffic congestion and frequent mishaps, particularly as two-wheelers, e-rickshaws, and auto-rickshaws take abrupt, unsafe turns,” the SP added.Citizens welcomed the move and claimed that sealing these cuts will help streamline traffic. Anil Sharma, a resident of Lalpur, said, “Bikes appear in front of my car out of nowhere through these cuts and there is always fear of accident. Closing these dangerous gaps will bring some much-needed order to the chaotic rush-hour traffic.”Another resident, Priya Verma of Kanke Road, said, “While closing these cuts will certainly cut down on accidents, the authorities must ensure proper U-turns are provided at reasonable distances. Otherwise, commuters will end up driving miles out of their way just to reach the other side of the road.”
