Ranchi: Jharkhand high court on Thursday granted the govt an adjournment to file a fresh report on the investigation into the alleged fake police encounter of gangster Aman Sao in Palamu.Sao’s mother, Kiran Devi, had petitioned the high Ccourt seeking a CBI probe into her son’s death in a police encounter on March 11 last year. Taking cognisance, the court directed the govt to respond.Govt counsel told the court the investigating officer had recently taken charge and needed time to study the matter. The court adjourned the hearing for a fortnight.Earlier, the govt submitted a sealed case diary report containing the CID investigation, along with forensic test documents.Sao was killed while being shifted from Raipur to Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi. Kiran Devi’s counsel, Hemant Kumar Shikarwar, had earlier said post-mortem photographs showed severe burn marks on Sao’s face and groin, which were “unexplainable.”Shikarwar alleged Sao was killed in a “well planned strategy” by police staging a fake escape. He said police claimed Sao snatched a weapon and fired, prompting retaliation, but alleged he was “brutally tortured” before being shot “in cold blood”.
