Bharat Tiwari’s mother files FIR against cops

Ara: Mother of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, Asha Devi, has lodged an FIR against Jagdishpur SDPO, then Shahpur SHO (now suspended) and other police personnel involved in the incident, alleging that her son was killed even after he had surrendered before the police. The FIR was registered by Bhojpur police based on her complaint.In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Bhojpur SP’s office stated: “Based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother regarding the police encounter incident under Shahpur police station area, an FIR has been registered (Case no. 178/26) against Jagdishpur SDPO, then Shahpur SHO and other police personnel concerned. The case is under investigation.”Though the FIR is dated June 22, Bhojpur police informed mediapersons about it only on Tuesday. Bharat Tiwari’s mother had submitted an application seeking registration of an FIR against the accused police personnel on June 18, a day after her son’s death.In the FIR lodged with Shahpur police station, Asha Devi stated: “At about 8am on June 17, the Shahpur SHO, along with other police personnel led by Jagdishpur SDPO, came to our house and asked Bharat Bhushan Tiwari to accompany them to the place where flood victims of Jawaniya village had been rehabilitated. Bharat Tiwari was constantly drawing the administration’s attention to the problems faced by the flood victims. The police personnel told him to accompany them to the spot and explain the grievances and demands of the flood victims.”Levelling serious allegations in the FIR, she further stated: “After reaching near the Jawaniya flood victims, Bharat, who was on social media, placed the demands of the flood victims before the police personnel and then threw his weapon to the ground and surrendered before the police. Despite this, Bharat was pushed into a pit by the police personnel and, on the orders of the Jagdishpur SDPO, was shot five times by the accused policemen.She further alleged: “The police then took my injured son away in a vehicle. My husband, Kashinath Tiwari, Bharat Tiwari’s father, was made to sit at the police station throughout the day. The police informed him only in the evening about our son’s death.”Seeking stern action against Jagdishpur SDPO, then Shahpur SHO and other accused police personnel, Asha Devi has sought justice for the alleged murder of her son.
