Burglar held before completing house built with stolen money

Patna: Police arrested a 22-year-old man who amassed a fortune through a series of daring burglaries in the city. The accused, Mohammad Parvez alias Kallu, was caught before he could complete a house he was constructing in Nalanda district using the proceeds of his crimes.Kallu, a resident of the Patliputra area in Patna for the past 10 years, operated alone. According to police, he meticulously planned each theft without involving any accomplices. His modus operandi involved conducting thorough reconnaissance of residential areas to identify vacant flats and houses that remained locked for several days. He would then break into targeted properties and steal jewellery and cash. The arrest was made from his maternal home in Sohsarai, Nalanda.Patna Central SP Diksha said on Saturday Kallu frequently targeted the Patliputra and Shri Krishnapuri localities. “He was linked to a theft at Flat No. 202 in Dorpati Apartments, Patliputra, which occurred on the night of Feb 23. The breakthrough came after police identified him through CCTV footage from the crime scene,” she said.“Investigations revealed Kallu was involved in at least four recent thefts in the area. His criminal activities also extended to the theft of a pistol from the Patliputra locality. Following each crime, he would flee to Kolkata for a few days and return only after the situation cooled down,” Diksha said.During the raid on his under-construction house in Nalanda, police recovered Rs 8 lakh in cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 22 lakh, all believed to be proceeds from his thefts.Diksha emphasised Kallu executed all his crimes independently, showcasing a high level of planning and caution. Police are now investigating if he was involved in more unreported cases, she added.
