Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has sought reports on a range of problems affecting lawyers and movement around the court premises, including traffic jams, mobile connectivity, parking for advocates and the bus terminals at Esplanade and Babughat.A division bench of Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Shampa Sarkar directed the High Court Registry to file an affidavit dealing with concerns raised by Bar members over the quality of mobile facilities in and around the court. The court also asked the Advocate General to obtain instructions on issues concerning the Esplanade and Babughat bus terminals and parking spaces for lawyers and report on the progress at the next hearing.The matter, originally filed by green activist Subhas Datta, concerns the proposed shifting of the Esplanade and Babughat bus termini to protect Victoria Memorial Hall from vehicular emissions. It will be taken up on Sept 11 with the court allowing parties to file affidavits.The directions came after an application by Bar members highlighted difficulties in vehicular movement around the court area. The bench recorded that it had been informed that a meeting on the traffic issue had already been held between the Speaker and members of the Bar. The Advocate General assured the court of appropriate steps to be taken.
