Mumbai: Accusing BJP of grabbing open spaces in the city, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray asked CM Devendra Fadnavis to stay the recent allotment of three reserved open spaces in Juhu and Andheri West to a Vile Parle charitable trust.Last month, resident groups and activists wrote to the CM seeking his intervention and cancellation of the plots’ allotment by BMC and Mhada to Shri Vile Parle Kelawani Mandal. Gulmohar Area Societies Welfare Group and RTI activist Anil Galgani urged Fadnavis to ensure that all three plots remain open and accessible to the public at all times in line with Development Plan 2034.“BJP has a weird obsession with grabbing open spaces and handing them over to its own people. This is why they contest elections in Mumbai. Apart from wanting to grab the city’s only artificial turf football ground for a convention centre and naming it after one of their leaders, now they have gifted another 16 acres… to another member of their party! One is a cricket ground that we made during our term for all Mumbaikars to play on... and 2 Mhada plots that will be given for free,” Aaditya said in a post on X, adding that his party will “ask all Mumbaikars to step out on the streets against this blatant land grab”.
