Kolkata: Julien Day School, Kolkata, hosted the 2nd edition of their Grace Julien Memorial Inter-School Science Quiz Competition 2026, in memory of the school’s founder, Grace Julien, recently. The event brought together teams from 14 eminent schools across the city to test their knowledge of science, current affairs, and analytical thinking. Sheila Evelyn Broughton, managing trustee, inaugurated the event on Aug 25, which was followed by the principal’s address on the importance of quizzing.After the preliminary round, eight schools qualified for the final round and Julien Day School, Kolkata, was one of them. The final round comprised several rounds namely Tech Experiments, Noble Nuggets, audio-visual round, mixed bag and buzzer round. South City International School emerged as champions with 150 points, followed by Julien Day School, Ganganagar, with 140 points and La Martiniere for Boys with 130 points.Terrence John, director of education and development, said, “There are quiz competitions around the state, but a specific science quiz is rare.”The event drew appreciation from participating schools as well. Principal Siddhartha Dey said, “The objective of the quiz was to go beyond textbook and nurture scientific curiosity and analytical thinking among students. We are proud to host a platform that celebrates the spirit of science and healthy competition.” Mrinal Maity, a senior science teacher of the host school, said that the ‘Tech Experiments’ round was the most difficult one.
