Class XII girl crushed by sand-laden truck in Samastipur, road blocked for 3 hrs

Patna: A 16-year-old Class XII student was crushed to death by a sand-laden truck while cycling to her coaching class in Samastipur district on Saturday. The incident triggered a three-hour blockade on State Highway (SH)-88 by angry residents demanding action against reckless driving.The victim, AnjaliKumari, daughter of Umesh Mahto of Pand village, was on her way to a coaching centre near Shanidev Temple on Mansurchak Road when the truck hit her near Daini Chowk under Dalsinghsarai police station area. She died on the spot. The truck driver fled with the vehicle after the accident.Enraged by the incident, locals blocked SH-88 for nearly three hours, leading to long traffic snarls on both sides of the highway. Police reached the spot, pacified the protesters and restored traffic before sending the body for post-mortem.Residents alleged that the Daini-Pand stretch has become accident-prone because of speeding vehicles and claimed that over a dozen people have lost their lives in crashes on the road over the past few years.Dalsinghsarai DSP Vivek Kumar Sharma said that police registered an FIR against an unidentified truck driver and launched efforts to trace the vehicle. He added that the victim’s family was provided immediate assistance of Rs 20,000.
