Ranchi: A 26-year-old man’s apparent bid to gain popularity on social media by posting a reel of walking into a police station in Ranchi holding a cane to project a macho image landed him on the wrong side side of the law, with cops tracking him down and making him parade around the premises on Tuesday as a ‘punishment’.Sahil Kumar Mahto, a resident of Chutia area, shot the reel at the local police station on Saturday, in an attempt to boost his social media presence. Instead, the reel landed him in trouble with the police.The reel, in which the youth is seen carrying a cane while entering the police station premises, soon came to the notice of Chutia police. As the reel went viral on the social media platform and caught the attention of police, they identified, traced and brought Mahto to the police station on Tuesday.He was then made to parade around the police station premises. “He was warned against repeating such acts in the future and let go. We have not taken any action against him as it was his first mistake,” Chutia police station officer in-charge Punam Kujur said.Sahil, accepting his mistake after the parade, said, “I have realised that it was a mistake to shoot a reel on the police station premises. I just shot the reel to gain some popularity, and my intent was not to cause any inconvenience.”
