Chennai: A city-based NGO has moved the Madras high court seeking direction to the ECI to introduce an audio-enabled VVPAT system in all the polling stations for the forthcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu.Refusing to entertain the plea moved by Nethrodaya, a public charitable trust working for the welfare of blind persons, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan observed that though it is a good case, it cannot be allowed at this point in time when the election process has already started. The court, however, granted liberty to the petitioner to make a fresh representation to ECI after the current elections are over. The petitioner stated, people who are blind encounter several challenges while voting at polling booths due to lack of assistive devices, such as audio-enabled electronic voting machines, which restrict their independent participation.
