Sharad ChandraDhanbad: In an unprecedented move aimed at strengthening crime prevention, Dhanbad police on Thursday conducted a first-of-its-kind collective interaction with 785 identified repeat offenders at the police centre. The initiative, led by senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, combined strict surveillance with an opportunity for offenders to reintegrate into society by abandoning criminal activities.Police officials described the exercise as the first such large-scale parade of identified offenders in Jharkhand. Individuals from different police station jurisdictions were assembled separately, where their identities, backgrounds and present activities were verified. Updated records and photographs were also collected to strengthen the district’s monitoring mechanism.Addressing the gathering, the SSP said every individual faces a choice between continuing on the path of crime or rebuilding life through lawful means. He stressed that the purpose of the programme was not merely to intimidate offenders but to offer them a genuine opportunity to reform and become responsible members of society. The SSP maintained that persons whose names had been included in the list of identified offenders by mistake, or those who had completely distanced themselves from crime, could submit a written application to their respective station house officers seeking removal of their names. “Following proper verification, eligible applicants would be considered for deletion from the list under the prescribed legal procedure,” he said.
