East Singhbhum police launch QR code-based digital beat policing system

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum police on Monday launched a QR code-based digital beat policing system to strengthen visible policing, improve accountability and enhance crime prevention through technology-driven field monitoring. The district has been divided into 102 urban beats and 104 rural beats under the initiative. Each beat has been assigned a dedicated beat officer (BO), responsible for regular patrolling, intelligence gathering, community engagement and preventive policing in the designated area.SSP Ehtesham Waqarib said QR code locations were scientifically identified after analysing crime hotspots based on crime data from the past five years. The selected points also include strategically important areas such as markets, transport hubs, vulnerable pockets and other public places.Police officials said every beat has been assigned multiple unique QR codes installed at designated locations. Personnel deployed in Tango, PCR and police station patrolling vehicles must scan these QR codes at least twice during every shift, ensuring regular police presence and enabling real-time digital monitoring. Each BO will also conduct daily foot or motorcycle patrols within the assigned beat, with special focus on peak public movement hours between 5 pm and 8 pm.Officials said the QR code scanning system will generate digital patrol records, helping senior officers monitor field activities and ensure greater accountability. It will also improve surveillance of crime-prone areas, enable quicker response to emerging issues and strengthen coordination between BOs and patrolling units.“By integrating digital monitoring with traditional beat policing, we aim to make every neighbourhood safer while strengthening the bond between the police and the public,” SSP Waqarib said.
