EOU arrests 17 in crackdown on land mafia syndicate

Patna: In one of the largest coordinated crackdowns on an alleged land mafia syndicate in Bihar, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Tuesday arrested 17 accused, including the alleged kingpin Guddu Yadav, after conducting simultaneous raids at 25 locations in Jamui and Sheikhpura districts. During the searches, investigators recovered Rs34 lakh in cash, hundreds of land-related documents, bank records, investment papers, vehicle documents, firearms, ammunition and other incriminating materials.The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Special Task Force (STF) and district police teams following an FIR registered by the EOU. According to the EOU, Guddu allegedly headed an organised criminal syndicate involved in forging land documents, forcibly grabbing land, acquiring properties in the names of family members and associates, and accumulating disproportionate assets over the last 15-16 years. The agency also alleged that the syndicate attempted to gain political influence. His wife, Dulari Devi, is the chairperson of the Jamui zila parishad.The 17 arrested accused have been identified as Guddu Yadav, Babulal Yadav, Lalan Yadav, Bhushan Yadav, Chhote Yadav, Vipin Yadav, Pramod Yadav, Shah Nawaz Khan, Shahnavaz Ali alias Munnu Miyan, Praveen Kumar Mishra, Rakesh Kumar alias Sonu Yadav, Alok Mishra, Manoj Yadav, Raghunandan Yadav, Shyam Yadav, Manoj Yadav of Khaira and Anuj Yadav of Sheikhpura.
