Patna: Bihar ex-servicemen association (officers) has demanded construction of a dedicated war memorial in Patna on the lines of similar structure constructed in other states to commemorate the valour, sacrifices and supreme contribution of soldiers of the Bihar Regiment.In a memorandum submitted to chief minister Samrat Choudhary recently, the association said Bihar has been the second largest contributor to the armed forces after Uttar Pradesh and the response of youths from the state towards joining the armed forces, including the Agniveer scheme, has also been encouraging.According to the association president Col (retd) V K Singh, a dedicated war memorial in the state capital would preserve the glorious legacy of the Bihar Regiment and pay tribute to soldiers who brought laurels to the state through their bravery and sacrifices.The memorandum highlighted that soldiers of the Bihar Regiment have made contributions in various wars, including the Second World War and their achievements reflect an important chapter in the military history of Bihar, Col Singh said, adding the proposed memorial would also inspire the younger generation by familiarising them with the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the armed forces personnel.
