Fake job racket busted; 11 apprehended in Central Delhi

New Delhi: Two fake job-placement call centres were busted in central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar Saturday, leading to the apprehension of 11 people. The fraudsters allegedly offered fake jobs to employment-seekers and demanded “registration fees” from them under various pretexts. The modus operandi across the two call centres was identical: target unemployed job-seekers through targeted calling by obtaining personal data from online recruitment platforms, pose as recruiters offering attractive job packages and demand fake fees under various packages. The callers demanded fees ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,500 from job-seekers in exchange for employment.Upon receiving the money, the callers allegedly continued to engage the candidates for a few days, offering assurances about the proposed job, after which communication was discontinued without providing the promised employment. The syndicate came to light when police received information regarding the call centres being operated from Lal Ratan building near Shadipur Metro Station in Ranjit Nagar. According to police, technical analysis of the surrounding area revealed a significant volume of calls connected with the suspected job-placement activity originating from specific locations.“Two teams were formed, and raids were conducted in the suspected locations. When police demanded corporate authorisation letters, placement agreements or records of any actual candidates successfully placed in jobs, the operatives failed to produce any legitimate document establishing genuine recruitment activity,” said DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh.Police found internet-based calling software and contact details of job-seekers taken from online portals on devices inside the call centres. 13 computer systems and five mobile phones allegedly used in the scam were seized from the two premises.Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS at Ranjit Nagar police station. Further investigation is under way to identify and apprehend the owners of the two setups and trace the syndicate’s network and operations.
