Food safety team inspects H’bag girls’ school kitchen

Hazaribag: A food safety team conducted a surprise inspection on Monday at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bonga village under Ichak block, Hazaribag, and collected samples of food items served to students.The inspection was carried out on the directions of DC Hemant Sati and additional chief medical officer Dr Shashi Jaiswal.Food safety officer Ambrish Pandey led the visit to the residential girls’ school.The team collected samples of boiled rice, arhar dal, wheat flour, masoor dal and chura. These samples will be sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory at Namkum in Ranchi for quality analysis. Pandey said action would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, if violations are found after the laboratory report.Inspectors directed the school management and kitchen staff to maintain daily cleanliness. Cooks were told to wear aprons and caps while cooking and serving meals, and to keep the kitchen free from pests, rodents, flies and lizards.Food safety officer Mohammad Manzar Hussain, Vikas Sharma, Suraj Kumar and Dhaneshwar Prasad Kushwaha were also part of the team. The district administration said such drives will continue in schools to ensure safe food.
