Jai Narain PandeyPatna: The state govt will conduct a probe and prepare a list of people who acquired disproportionate land holdings within a short span to identify land mafias in Bihar since 1990, revenue and land reforms minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said on Tuesday. He said CM Samrat Choudhary, during a review meeting of the department on Monday, directed officials to also prepare a list of scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and extremely backward classes (EBC) beneficiaries who were allotted three decimals of land but could not take possession because the land had been grabbed.“The CM has also given us some instructions and the poor people will get justice,” Dilip said.“There are people who had a modest background but acquired disproportionate land overnight since RJD chief Lalu Prasad came to power in 1990. Either they encroached upon the land of the poor or grabbed it by force. The govt will identify such people,” he said.Addressing an EBC function organised by BJP on Monday, Samrat said there would be a full accounting of anyone who had encroached upon land belonging to EBCs between 1990 and 2026. He also took a dig at the security provided to the Lalu family and said the “biggest villain” was scared, which signified the presence of good governance in Bihar.Govt plans two DCLRs in every subdivision: Revenue and land reforms minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said the govt would soon appoint two deputy collector land reforms (DCLR) officers in each of the state’s 38 subdivisions to address land-related disputes more effectively. He said 37% of court cases in the state were related to land matters.
