Buxar: Buxar continued to reel under an intense heatwave with the temperature touching 42°C on Monday, severely affecting daily life. The health department has been put on high alert with special arrangements made to treat heat-related illnesses.A dedicated ward for heatstroke patients has been set up at Sadar Hospital, equipped with air conditioners, essential medicines, oxygen cylinders, IV fluids and life-saving equipment to ensure prompt treatment.Hospital manager Dushyant Kumar Singh said the ward was established considering the rising heat intensity. He added patients are being closely monitored, and anyone showing symptoms of heatstroke is immediately admitted for specialised care. Health workers have been instructed to remain vigilant and avoid negligence.Civil surgeon Dr Shiv Prasad Chakraborty said similar heatstroke wards have been set up at sub-divisional hospitals and block-level health centres across the district, with adequate stocks of essential medicines ensured.A rapid response team (RRT), comprising doctors and nursing staff, has also been deployed for round-the-clock monitoring and emergency response.The district administration and health department are working in coordination to prevent any loss of life, with authorities assuring additional resources if required.District magistrate Sahila urged residents to remain cautious and avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, wear light cotton clothing and stay hydrated. Special care has been advised for children, the elderly and those with health conditions.She also ordered revised school timings with classes I to VIII operating till 11.30am from April 27 to May 5.
