Patna: After drizzles kept Patna wet through Tuesday, rain activity is likely to continue on Wednesday with the IMD forecasting rainfall at many places and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds across several parts of Bihar.The state is expected to remain under an active monsoon spell for the next few days due to a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha, Jharkhand and the northwest Bay of Bengal.According to the IMD forecast issued on Tuesday, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6km above mean sea level and is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours.The monsoon trough is also passing through northern India towards the centre of the low-pressure area, while another trough linked to the system extends across Jharkhand and Bihar towards northwest Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Bihar, with isolated heavy rain in some areas.IMD meteorologist Kumar Gaurav said the weather systems would remain active for two to three days and mostly affect southern districts. “After a few days, temperatures will be on the rise again,” he said.For Wednesday, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for rain at many places in Patna district. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely across several parts of the state, while heavy rainfall has been forecast for Gaya, Jamui and Nawada.Similar warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning have been issued for Sept 3 and 4, indicating the wet spell is likely to continue beyond Wednesday.Tuesday’s showers brought relief from humid conditions in the capital, but cloudy skies and intermittent rain are expected over the next couple of days.
