NEW DELHI: The man accused of murdering 21-year-old Muskan in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar had been heavily dependent on drugs and was removed from a gym he frequented after allegedly attempting suicide at his rented accommodation, police said.Investigators also found that Imran, alias Aqib, had been sent to a drug de-addiction centre in July following a complaint by Muskan’s family.Her relatives had alleged that Imran had harassed her for several months and often followed her. Police said the two had been in a relationship, but Muskan’s family has denied this.Police are also investigating a meeting between the two at a hotel on 20 August, days before Muskan was killed. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the meeting and what happened between them in the days leading up to the murder.An employee at the gym said Muskan and Imran used to work out at the same facility. He said Imran was removed from the gym around two months ago after attempting suicide at his rented accommodation.The employee said he had been working at the gym for four to five months, while Muskan had been coming there for around three to four months.
Arrest after late-night encounter
Police apprehended Imran after launching a manhunt across three states.Muskan was alone at home when she was attacked, police said.Imran had previously been involved in a 2021 case involving assault and culpable homicide, according to police.An encounter broke out during the arrest operation, in which Imran sustained a gunshot injury. He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
