Ranchi: A day after a BJP delegation met chief secretary (CS) Avinash Kumar seeking withdrawal of all FIRs registered in last month’s student protests over alleged irregularities in the examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) within 48 hours or face protest, members of the INDIA alliance on Thursday met the top bureaucrat and demanded action against those who allegedly used the agitation to create unrest. The meeting underscored the growing political battle over the student movement.The delegation, comprising functionaries of Congress, JMM, RJD, and CPI(ML), urged the administration to differentiate between genuine students raising concerns over alleged discrepancies in recruitment examinations and individuals allegedly involved in vandalism and law-and-order disturbances.“The delegation submitted video footage of incidents that occurred during the protests and sought a fair investigation to identify those responsible for disruptive activities. Action should be taken against all those found involved in creating disorder, irrespective of their affiliation,” JMM general secretary Vinod Pandey said.Congress member Rajesh Thakur said, “The alliance govt stood with students during the agitation and acted on several of their demands. After the movement gained momentum, attempts were made to divert the issue and create confusion by giving it a different direction by certain elements at the behest of the Opposition.”CID had started action in the alleged recruitment scam-related cases before the protests intensified. CID has so far arrested around two dozen people, including former JPSC chairman L Khiangte. The probe is under way, the delegation added.
