Jamshedpur: Saheb Singh alias Sabbe, 22, who was arrested on charges of killing 23-year-old Rahul Singh alias Rahul Baccha, was injured in an encounter early Thursday after he fired at a police team and tried to escape from custody.Sabbe suffered bullet injuries in both legs and is undergoing treatment at the govt-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH).The encounter occurred when the accused was taken to the Smriti Park area in Jamshedpur, where he concealed two firearms used in Rahul’s murder.SP (City) Lalit Meena said Sabbe initially cooperated and helped police recover two firearms — one empty and another loaded pistol. After retrieving the loaded weapon, he allegedly fired at the police while trying to escape. Policemen present there escaped unhurt and retaliated in self-defence.Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar fired two rounds, both hitting Sabbe in the legs. He was then taken to MGMMCH.Police said 10 to 15 assailants attacked Rahul near Munshi Mohalla Mazar on Gurdwara Road when he was sitting alone on his motorcycle. He was beaten, stoned, attacked with a big knife and shot dead. Police suspect a love triangle. Sabbe allegedly told police Rahul fired three rounds at him in Sakchi months ago. Both had criminal antecedents.Earlier, Sabbe and two other accused — Saurabh Dutta alias Bangali and Md Aftab, both in their early 20s — surrendered before police in the wee hours of Thursday. All three are residents of areas under Mango police station. A fourth accused, identified as Amarjeet Prasad alias Pandey, was arrested on Thursday. All have been sent to jail.Raids are underway for other identified accused.
