Jamshedpur waterlogging: DC orders close monitoring as more rain looms

Jamshedpur: With several parts of Jamshedpur grappling with waterlogging following days of incessant rain, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan has directed urban local bodies to closely monitor vulnerable areas and ensure prompt action to prevent disruptions. He chaired a review meeting with officials of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) and Chakulia Nagar Panchayat (CNP) on Monday evening.Ranjan instructed officials to keep a close watch on waterlogging-prone locations for swift response and directed them to also ensure that all street lights are functional.Emphasising efficient drainage systems, he ordered civic bodies to carry out regular desilting and cleaning of drains to prevent overflow. “It must be followed by intensified fogging and anti-larval spraying to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases,” he said, asking officials to also ensure adequate lighting on all major roads and public places. The DC further asked municipal bodies to intensify public awareness drives on sanitation, waste management and monsoon-related precautions. The directives assume significance as several parts of the city, including the railway underbridge near Tata Pigments Gate, Karandih level crossing, Teachers’ Colony in Sakchi, the Airport-Circuit House Road, and low-lying localities in Kadma, Sonari, Mango, Bagunhatu and Parsudih, have witnessed severe waterlogging over the past four days. The city recorded more than 55 mm of rainfall between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain over the next couple of days.
