Jan Suraaj accuses BJP of violating MCC

Patna: A Jan Suraaj delegation on Friday met Election Commission officials in Patna and accused the BJP of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) in the run-up to the July 30 Bankipur assembly bypoll. The delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting what it described as major violations. The contest is among BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor and RJD’s Rekha Gupta. The seat fell vacant after BJP national president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha. After the meeting, Jan Suraaj state president Manoj Bharti alleged that BJP workers had put up “confusing posters” at key locations over the past few days to mislead voters.“Our charge is that the BJP workers, over the last few days, have been indulging in the most flagrant violations of the MCC. We drew the attention of the EC to a slew of points in this regard, and also made a few demands, too,” Bharti said.He also alleged that BJP workers had removed Jan Suraaj posters and banners from private properties and falsely claimed to be officials of the Patna Municipal Corporation.Referring to the 2025 Assembly elections, Bharti demanded that central paramilitary forces be deployed outside polling booths. “We appealed to the EC to prevent electoral malpractices and only responsible personnel should be put on polling duty, and they, too, should be alerted about their own responsibilities,” he said.Rejecting the allegations, BJP spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel termed them “confusing and baseless” and accused Prashant Kishor of trying to create a favourable atmosphere for himself.
