Kolkata: A gold jewellery manufacturing company registered a criminal complaint with Girish Park Police Station.In its complaint, the firm has alleged that two freelance artisans misappropriated gold bullion worth around Rs 3.5 crore.According to the complaint,the company employs freelance artisans and contractors to make ornaments on a returnable job-work basis.A manufacturing agreement was signed in Dec 2022.According to the agreement, raw gold and precious stones were given to the contractors. The firm would have the rights over the unused material and the same would be returned if no work was done on those.It was revealed during an internal checking of various documents.The audit involved an internal reconciliation of accounts, stock registers, and issuance of voucher registries, among other things.During this audit, it was found that about 2,281.88 grams of gold remained unaccounted for, despite no corresponding manufacturing orders being assigned for that stock. Investigation into the complaint is underway, police said.
