Ranchi: The Jharkhand Police Association (JPA) will launch phased protests over its nine-point charter of demands, including action against Dumri MLA Jairam Mahto for allegedly misbehaving with a sub-inspector-rank officer in Dhanbad.In a letter to chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday, JPA president Rahul Kumar Murmu said members would wear black badges while on duty from Sept 8 to 11, observe a day-long mass fast on Sept 19, stage dharnas and demonstrations at the offices of the director general of police, superintendents of police and commandants on Sept 24, and proceed on a six-day mass leave from Oct 5 to 10.Besides action against the MLA, the association has sought respectable dress allowance, enhanced food allowance, revision of allowances as per the seventh wage revision, education allowance for two children per officer, health allowance, transfer of police officers posted in a district or wing for more than 10 years, timely promotions and provisions for legal action against public representatives who behave rudely with police or prevent them from performing duty.Mahto had allegedly abused Barwaadda police station in-charge SI Ravi Kumar on Aug 21, threatened to destroy his career after a change in the state govt and later ransacked the police station at night.JPA state president Rahul Kumar Murmu said, “The MLA’s action has hurt the police association members across the state. The agitation has been planned on their demands.”
