Koderma man awarded life term for minor sister’s murder, father gets 3-yr RI for destroying evidence

Koderma: The court of Upper District and Sessions Judge-III, Rakesh Chandra, on Monday awarded life term to a youth for murdering his minor sister and three-year rigorous imprisonment to their father for helping destroy evidence.Jyotish Kumar, 20, killed Nibha Kumari, 17, on February 2, 2025, and dumped her body in a septic tank near their house over her relationship with a boy from her school.Jyotish confessed the incident to their father, Madan Pandey, 70, on Feb 10, 2025. Thereafter, both retrieved the body. Madan severed the head and hands of his dead daughter before packing the remains into a plastic bag in an attempt to erase evidence. They then carried the body on a bicycle for about four kms and buried it under sand at Jamuniya ghat beside the Panchkhero river.Acting on inputs, Markachho police, in the presence of a magistrate, recovered the body on Feb 12, 2025, and arrested both the accused.The court convicted Jyotish under Sec 103 of the BNS for murder and awarded life imprisonment with a Rs 25,000 fine, failing which he would serve another six months in jail. Madan was convicted under Sec 238 for causing disappearance of evidence and sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a Rs 10,000 fine, failing which three more months would be added, said public prosecutor Praveen Kumar Singh.
