Deoghar: Gujarat Police on Saturday detained a man in his 20s from his maternal grandparents’ house in Deoghar, in connection with alleged email threats concerning the Brics summit venue in Delhi and the Gujarat secretariat in Gandhinagar. Police identified the suspect as Gulshan Kumar Singh, a native of Bihar’s Jamui.Singh was picked up from Town police station area with the assistance of Deoghar police. He was later taken to Gandhinagar on a transit remand obtained from a local court, officers said.Deoghar SP Praveen Pushkar confirmed Singh’s detention and said he had created the email account allegedly used to send the threatening messages. “He has been taken into custody in connection with the email threat and will be interrogated in the case,” Pushkar said.An FIR was registered at a police station in Gandhinagar on Sept 10 in this connection. Gujarat Police had earlier arrested another person in connection with the case and questioned him. Investigators subsequently obtained leads that prompted a team to travel to Deoghar, sources said.Police are examining technical evidence, including the email account allegedly created by Singh, and scrutinising his WhatsApp and other social media accounts to ascertain his role and identify others who may be linked to the threats.Officials from Gujarat and Deoghar police have refrained from disclosing further details, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. They are also probing whether Singh had any direct role in sending the threatening emails or was connected to a wider network.Police activity increased in Deoghar following the arrival of the Gujarat team. Officers said the exact nature of Singh’s involvement and the possible network behind the threats would become clear only after questioning and analysis of the digital evidence are completed.
