Migrant arrested for pushing co-worker off train in Tamil Nadu

Daltonganj: A 45-year-old migrant worker from Palamu district was arrested on Friday for allegedly pushing a co-worker from a moving train in Tamil Nadu, police said on Sunday.The accused, Akhilesh, was sent to judicial custody on Saturday. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Lallan, at Paton police station on Sept 23, officer in-charge Anil Vidhyarthi said.Sadar SDPO Rajesh Yadav said Akhilesh and the victim, 28-year-old Ram Brat, were residents of Satawwa and Sathey villages under Paton police station limits. They had boarded the Hatia-Alappuzha Express on Sept 11 to go for work at the construction site of the upcoming AIIMS facility in Madurai.Police said the two men argued in the general compartment after the train crossed Tiruchirappalli Junction. Akhilesh allegedly pushed Ram out of the moving train, causing his death.Govt Railway Police recovered Ram’s body from the tracks near Virudhunagar on Sept 14. As no one came forward to identify him for three days, GRP conducted a post-mortem examination and registered an unnatural death case.Neither worker had a mobile phone, preventing Ram’s family from contacting them. Relatives later contacted workers from Paton at the Madurai site and learnt that only Akhilesh had reached there.Police said Akhilesh left the site and returned to Satawwa on Sept 22 after Ram’s family and villagers questioned him.He initially claimed the death was accidental but later allegedly admitted pushing Ram off the train, police said.
