Chennai: Health minister K G Arunraj on Friday ordered action against the contractor responsible for poorly maintained toilets in the super-speciality block of Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and directed Public Works Department to fix leaking water pipes in the old maternity block immediately.During an inspection of the hospital, the minister also reviewed facilities at the super-speciality block, outpatient department, visitors’ hostel, integrated emergency maternity and childcare unit, Amma Unavagam and the medical college hostel. He told officials and contractors to ensure toilets are kept clean at all times and sought a detailed report from the hospital dean and resident medical officer on shortcomings in the outpatient department and the corrective steps proposed.Arunraj said the Nalam TN initiative has received Rs 2.8 crore in donations, reflecting strong public and corporate interest in strengthening government healthcare infrastructureHe asked the hospital to display awareness boards on the Nalam AI WhatsApp bots and to train staff and volunteers to help patients use the platform. Nearly 1.25 lakh people across 22 districts are using the platform for outpatient registration.The minister added that the health department has rolled out appointment-booking facilities to reduce waiting time. The service, currently available for the cardiology department at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, has been used by around 500 patients and will be expanded to other districts.
