Ramgarh: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed speed monitoring cameras to curb speeding and minimise fatal crashes in the accident-prone Chutupalu Valley on the Ranchi-Hazaribag stretch of NH-33.The measure came after deputy commissioner Rituraj, police personnel and NHAI officials recently carried out an inspection of the stretch. The NHAI has imposed a speed limit of 40 km an hour on the stretch. Vehicles found speeding will be penalised by the district transport office.Police recently initiated breathalyser tests to detect drunk driving along the 12-km stretch between Chutupalu in Ranchi district and Patel Chowk in Ramgarh district.The team, led by DC also inspected black spots on the stretch where several accidents led to loss of lives in the past. “The speedometers (speed monitoring cameras) were installed as a short-term measure by the district administration and the NHAI to make the accident-prone zone safer,” DC said.NHAI project director Vijay Kumar said the new speed monitoring device would display real-time vehicle speed limits and flash warning signals to alert drivers.
