Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in a joint operation with the Bihar STF, arrested absconding accused Karamullah from Saran in connection with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition in Muzaffarpur, officials said on Monday.Karamullah, son of Abdul Gaffar and a resident of Chetan Parsa in Saran, is accused of conspiring with others to smuggle sophisticated prohibited-bore weapons from Nagaland to Bihar. Investigators suspect the weapons were intended to disrupt public peace and pose a threat to national security.The case originated after an AK-47 rifle fitted with a lens and live ammunition was recovered from Murghatiya Bridge in Muzaffarpur’s Fakuli police station area on May 7, 2024. Four people were arrested at the time.During the investigation, the NIA filed multiple supplementary chargesheets against several accused, including Vikash Kumar, Satyam Kumar, Devmani Rai, Ahmad Ansari, Manjoor Khan and Kundan Kumar alias Kundan Bhagat, under various provisions of the IPC, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.Another accused, Bhairaw Tripathi, son of Jagat Narayan Tripathi and a resident of Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur, was arrested from Muzaffarpur on Aug 19.NIA officials said further investigation into the weapon-smuggling network and the role of other accused was continuing.
