Bokaro: A 26-year-old woman in labour pain had to be carried on a cot for nearly 4 km by family members and villagers to reach an ambulance in the remote northern Parasnath region under Pirtand block in Giridih district on Saturday evening due to lack of a motorable road.Logo Tudu, wife of Santosh Murmu of Karuatand village, went into labour on Saturday morning. Her family called the 108 ambulance service, but the vehicle could not reach the village due to the absence of a motorable road.With no option, villagers placed her on a cot and carried her through rough, hilly terrain to Pipradih main road, where the ambulance was waiting. She was taken to a private hospital in Pirtand, where she delivered a baby boy. Both mother and child are safe.Villagers said the incident highlighted a long-standing infrastructure need in Madhuban panchayat. On May 27, another woman from the same area was carried on a cot after childbirth complications.“We still depend on cots to reach ambulances,” Budhan Soren, a villager, said.Residents of affected villages, including Dalwadih, Kuruaa, Dahia, Itabeda and Saharbeda, have repeatedly demanded roads, bridges, healthcare and education facilities. Villagers recently submitted a memorandum to Giridih deputy commissioner Ram Niwas Yadav, who assured an inspection visit.Officials said the area falls under Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary, where forest regulations have delayed road construction. Pirtand BDO Manoj Marandi said, “A proposal for connecting the villages has been sent to the district administration and efforts are underway for a solution.”
