Daltonganj: A group of Class 10 students from Govt High School, Paton, in Palamu have got temporary relief after raising the demand for a walkable road to their school during the district administration’s weekly ‘Jan Samadhan’ programme.The students met deputy commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday and sought repairs to the 3-km stretch connecting Kisaini village to the school. They said the road was full of potholes and had turned slippery due to slush following recent rain.“We wait for sunny days to go to school as the slush dries up a little and our sandals do not get stuck,” one of the girls told the DC during the grievance redressal programme.Taking note of the complaint, the DC directed the district mining office to strengthen the road with stone dust. Officials said the stretch was padded with stone dust on Thursday and later levelled using an excavator.District education officer Sandeep Kumar said the road was in poor condition. “There were potholes across the stretch and slush had almost eaten up the road. The mining office got it padded with stone dust and it was later levelled,” he said.On concerns that heavy rain could wash away the temporary work, Kumar said a natural drainage channel along the road would help prevent waterlogging.Officials said the programme has addressed several complaints raised by children in recent weeks. These include providing books to a Class V girl whose study materials were damaged in rain and helping a disabled couple with livelihood support and a wheelchair after their daughter sought help.The DC has directed officials to respond quickly to genuine concerns raised by children.
