Daltonganj: Palamu police seized 9.66kg of opium, estimated to be worth around Rs 15 lakh, during an overnight vehicle-checking operation in Chhaterpur and arrested two persons in connection with the seizure, police said on Tuesday.The operation was conducted on the directions of Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary after police received specific information that a man from Bihar was expected to enter Chhaterpur late at night to purchase opium, police sources said.Acting on the tip-off, Chhaterpur SDPO Prashant Kumar launched vehicle checking on the Chhaterpur-Japla road. During the operation, police intercepted a Bihar-registered motorcycle and arrested its rider, identified as Ranjan Rajak (36), a resident of Gaya district in Bihar.Police recovered 2.66kg of opium from Rajak, who had allegedly travelled from Bihar to Chhaterpur to procure the contraband, SDPO Kumar said.“Based on the information provided by Rajak, police raided the house of a local resident, Dayanand Prasad (60), and recovered another 7kg of opium,” Kumar said.Both Rajak and Prasad have been arrested and further investigation is underway to establish the source of the opium and identify others involved in the alleged supply network, police said.
