Daltonganj: A 25-year-old man and his mother displayed remarkable courage by foiling a daylight robbery at a customer service point (CSP) in Palamu’s Lesliganj area on Monday, while prompt police action prevented the accused from being lynched by an angry crowd, police said on Tuesday.The incident occurred around 2.20pm at Gopalganj when two armed miscreants allegedly looted Rs 7,100 from a CSP run by Rohit Kumar and fired a shot to scare people before attempting to flee.However, Rohit and his mother, Sunita Devi, fought back and managed to overpower one of the robbers. The second accused was caught by local residents who rushed to the spot after hearing their cries for help. Together, they foiled the robbery and recovered the looted cash.SDPO Lesliganj Prashant Kumar said the bravery shown by Rohit and his mother helped thwart the robbery, while swift police intervention averted a potentially serious law-and-order situation.Police recovered the entire stolen amount, a country-made pistol, five live cartridges, a motorcycle and a mobile phone. The accused, identified as Pawan Singh (21) and Ranbeer Singh (20), residents of Tarhassi area, were arrested and booked under relevant sections of BNS and Arms Act. “Both were remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday,” said Kumar.During interrogation, Pawan allegedly confessed to involvement in two similar robberies at CSPs in Tarhassi and Manatu police station areas over the past two months.According to the SDPO, the duo had also stolen a motorcycle earlier on Monday and used it in the attempted robbery. The stolen bike was recovered during the operation.
