Patna: A 25-year-old man died after allegedly falling from the roof of a building, while another youth sustained a gunshot injury during a suspected altercation in Patna’s Rajiv Nagar area on Sunday afternoon. Police said the incident appears to have stemmed from a personal relationship.The incident was reported around 4.30pm from Road No. 8B under Rajiv Nagar police station area. A police team rushed to the spot and found Priyesh Ranjan, a native of Motihari, dead after allegedly falling from the roof of the building.The injured, Raju Kumar (26), son of Vinod Kumar and a native of Nagasthan under Masaurhi police station area in Patna district, was living as a tenant in a house owned by Arvind Singh. He sustained a single gunshot wound and was rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.Preliminary investigation revealed that Raju’s sister had been in a relationship with Priyesh for a considerable period. Police said she had reportedly stopped communicating with him in recent days, following which Priyesh allegedly arrived at her rented accommodation carrying a pistol.According to police, an altercation broke out between Priyesh and Raju at the house. During the confrontation, Raju suffered a gunshot injury. Priyesh subsequently fell from the roof and died. The exact circumstances leading to the fall are being investigated.Police secured the scene and sent the body for postmortem after completing legal formalities.Patna SP (Central) Mamata Kalyani visited the spot and supervised the investigation. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also examined the scene and collected evidence.Police recovered a pistol, one live cartridge and one spent cartridge from the spot. The weapon and ammunition have been sent for forensic examination to determine whether the recovered firearm was used in the shooting.Kalyani said preliminary findings indicate the incident arose out of a personal dispute. “The exact sequence of events and motive will be established after examining forensic evidence, witness statements, the injured man’s account and the postmortem report,” she said.A case has been registered and further legal action is underway, she added.
